I really enjoyed the 1941 movie "The Maltese Falcon" starring Humphrey Bogart. I would count Psycho but that was made during the color period in 1960 and put in black and white when Hitchcock wanted to save money.

Well, I've never really watched a classic old movie that was black and white but I really liked watching 'I Love Lucy' though.

My pick is the luminous "It Happened One Night".
Some of the lighting in this movie are so beautiful (Claudette Colbert in profile in the hay bed or looking up at Clark Gable pleading with him to run away with her) that it takes my breath away every time I see the movie. It is as though Hurrell had morphed into a cameraman on set. (Those of you who are familiar with Hurrell will understand what I am talking about). Stunning!
My favorite story is of course, "To Kill a Mockingbird"
