14 block noth is negated when it goes 26 to the south so 26 - 14 = 12. It also travels 16 block East. If you draw it we get a simple triangle with one side of 16 and another of 12.

Path Theorm

12^2 + 16^2 = X^2
400=x^2
SR of 400 = x
x = 20

It has been displaces 20 units

To do this, treat each pair of opposite directions together. Then you wind up 12 blocks south and 16 blocks east. The displacement is (of course) 20 blocks [3-4-5], and the direction is appx 36 degrees south of east (more exactly sin-1(0.6) )
