Moderates try to please everyone and end up pleasing no one. On important issues there are no moderate positions. You either have a strong core belief system or you are a moderate. Moderates believe in compromise when opposition is what is called for to defend what is right. As a conservative I have strong core beliefs. I believe in liberty, moral absolutism, the Constitution and limited Federal Government. Liberals have opposite beliefs. But I can respect that. Moderates? What is the moderate position? Sort of follow the Constitution unless most of the people seem to want to do something else? Liberty in a way but only if everyone agrees? Moral absolutism might offend some people? Limited Federal Government? I don't know let's see what everyone else thinks?

Phooey! On important issues that face America today you have to take stand. Just like a woman can be pregnant or not. She cannot be sort of pregnant or kind of pregnant. She is or she isn't. Important issues are always this way.

President Carter was a Liberal. President Reagan was a Conservative. Both presidents Bush are moderates. Look where that has lead.

My understanding of moderates would be Guiliani on the Republican side because he's not too Conservative on Social issues and most of the mainstream Democrats like Hillary and Feinstein who vote for the Pro-Corporate "Free Trade" agenda, huge Pentagon budgets and approved the War of Aggression against Iraq; but are liberal on Social issues.
