And which of these is colder during the winter?

lovnrckets - Well I've been considering these two job markets, including Seattle, for a while now.
But I can't stand places that are bone-chilling cold during the winter; I got my fill in Germany.

Have heard nothing but great things about Portland although I have yet to venture to the Pacific NW. Chicago is far and away one of the worst places to be during winter. Portland rains a lot but you won't freeze. Their climate is moderated by the ocean. You would likely find more things to do in Chicago by virtue of it being a lot bigger. Just out of curiosity, why these two cities for a comparison?

How Soon is Now - you think we are bad, you should try NYC. Not offended but amused by your poetic description. "Cold like the souls of its citizens." LOL

I think the White Sox should stay in Chicago. Half the city would be really sad if they left. Obama too. Don't worry about the White Sox choking against the Twins. It seems like the Dome has that effect on some teams. When the Twins play in Chicago, they have a hard time winning. The White Sox have won the World Series within the last five years and has a pitcher who set a record last night and had a perfect game. The Cubs haven't.

I live in Chicago. It's a great city... arguably the best city in the country, but you can't get much colder than a Chicago winter. I don't know how cold it gets in Portland during the winter, but a couple times per year we'll get wind chills of -40. It will easily freeze the snot inside your nose. Granted, the name "Windy City" doesn't really derive from gusts of wind, but rather from it being a hub for political conventions; regardless, I remember one year it was so cold that Alaska, no joke, was 80 degrees warmer.

Haven't been to Portland but Chicago with that wind off the Lake can kill ya! Here, 60 mins north of NYC it gets pretty cold too. We get below zero temps with wind.......!
