Thomas Jefferson was clearly a Deist, and it is possible, or perhaps probable that Benjamin Franklin was more Diest than Quaker. However, Washington and most of the other Founding Fathers were church members. I won't try to claim that they were all fundamentalist but they were at least nominally Christian, and most of their philosophy was based on Christian philosophy.

I'm afraid your argument doesn't hold a lot of water.

I agree, it is not accepted that the founding fathers were deist, remember, deist held a different definition that it use to in those days. When you further read the writings of the FF you will see that they had a strong belief in the trinity.

I personally believe that this will come around again. People are getting closer to nature, but they are once again blaming acts (or lack of) for natures actions. Remember, people use to believe that a sacrifice of human blood could cause rain. Now some believe a SUV can cause a hurricane.

Being a deist is very intensive and requires more study than most religions. What politician has the time?
