I am 20 weeks pregnant - I find out if I'm having a girl or boy on the 5th next week. My partner and I have chosen names already (in the first weeks of pregnancy)... I am just concerned because he brought up that people might call our little girl (if we have a girl) Amy-lee but her name is suppose to me Am`elee as in Amelie... or those who still don’t understand the name Am-il-y. It’s just my cousins name is Amy and her nick name is Emily and I need to use LEE because its tradition in my family and I love this name. What do you think? Should I just get rid of the ee and have ie? Thanks guys!

I think it will cause pronunciation confusion (plus I can't stand names with apostrophes, but that's me). I say use Amelie or Amalie.

And to one of the other answerers: "irregardless" isn't a word... it is "regardless."

I get that you don't want the Amy-Lee pronunciation, but I'm still not sure how you DO want it said. Amelie is a BEAUTIFUL name, but it is generally pronounced ah-me-lee or a-may-lee, depending on the language of origin. Am-il-y, as you've put it, seems a bit different from either of those known pronunciations, so yes, I think you're in for a lot of confusion with both the Am'elee punctuated spelling and created pronunciation.

If I'm just reading it wrong, and you did mean one of those, I'd stick with the familiar -- and more attractive -- Amelie spelling. It's nice that Lee is a family tradition and all, but you already have the sound right there. No reason to butcher the spelling and make the name more complicated than it is, know what I mean? (And I'm not accusing you of butchering the spelling ... I'm saying you shouldn't feel you have to when you have the obvious nod to "Lee" with the -lie/"lee" ending). ;)

Good luck!

I would spell it Amilee if that is the pronunciation you want.
Am'elee is very confusing when you first see it but Amily or Amilee or Amalie speaks for itself.
Amilie Charlotte is a great name and still has the 'lee' bit in it. Or find other names that you can use Lee for even is she has 2 middle names. Like...

Jemma Lee Charlotte 'Jones'
Imogen Lee Charlotte 'Jones'
Tamara Lee Charlotte 'Jones'

Good luck with this one, I think you should look at alternative names..

Beautiful name, but to avoid mispronunciation and to have her name sound like you want, you will have to change the spelling. It is the 'amy' that would be confusing, not the 'ee' at the end.
How about -
* Amelie
* Amalie
* Amalee

Hope this helps

I'd go with Amy-Lee with the hyphen if you want people to pronounce it the way it's spose to sound.

I'd pronounce Amelie

Am-Eh-Lee

Have you considered other names ending with Lee? You might have a boy then not have to worry about it! Good luck with your pregnancy!

Try "Amilee," people will be able to pronounce it easier, and you can keep the Lee ending.

pretty name, ugly spelling. you'll still get the "lee" sound if you spell it the normal way anyway. just go with Amelie. much, much classier.
