I'm pretty sensitive and always seem to imagine that people are mad at me if, for example, I don't hear from them. Sometimes this causes me to write people off.

For example, an old friend has become distant with me over the past 2 years...pretty much since she started dating this guy. They are now engaged and she invited me to the wedding. I made up an excuse because I feel too hurt to go since we hardly ever talk (maybe every 5 months or so) and I just don't feel close to her any more.

However, I also don't want to be so "picky" about what I expect from people that I end up with no friends.

Should I go to the wedding? How do you maintain a relationship when you don't hear from someone for long stretches of time?

I forgot to give examples of why I have been upset with this friend. She got two Master's degrees in a row. She invited me to the first graduation (I went) but didn't invite me to the second one two years later and never gave any explanation why.

Also, the last few times I've called her she doesn't return my call for several (4 or 5) weeks.

Maybe we have just grown apart...but I don't want to go to the wedding and then feel out of place or that I'm spending a lot of money on someone who doesn't really care about me.

if you know that you're too picky with people and take their silence for betrayal, then go to the wedding. with each situation, tell yourself that you need to broaden your bubble of comfort and go out there.
