California is definitely easier on high school students than the Philippines is. Philippine high schools have a tougher curriculum (strong emphasis on scientific courses) than US high schools in general (you can opt for vocational courses).

Public or private? That makes all the difference. California has some of the worst public schools in the nation.
I think the teaching and curriculum is a lot different. Philippines is far more advanced in mathematics and language arts however the geography and current events (only have experience with students in public/sub-par private schools) is abysmal.

It is not a question of whether it is easier or not, because of the difference in the culture and educational programming of both countries. What the Philippines consider difficult may be easy for people in California and vice-versa. Besides, schools have different curricula.

Definitely not!!!
My cousin in junior high was studing what I studied in 5th grade in the Philippines. The same cousin studied at a public school in the province, and topped his class in his first year in California.
Several classmates in Manila, who were doing poorly in our class, received straight A's when they went to the US. They said classes, exams, and homeworks were so easy! When they came to Manila, they had problems coping with the load and were back to average and below average students.

as for me... High schools in the Philippines are really competitive... I was a regular student there, but when I came here (US), I did have lots of awards and was promoted to be senior at once... (-:

During my high school days (not so long ago :D haha), I have one classmate whos considered average in the class but upon transferring to US, she wrote a letter that she got all the subjects with Grade A. She even took a picture of her report card.

Just what do you mean?
Good students will excel in any school anywhere in the world. Just like the Filipino kids studying in the US schools, including those in California, who top their class and beat the natives (Americans) in their territory.

you would think right?
but apparently that isnt necessarily true.
there are more subjects, there are more school hours, there are more projects, more homework, there are a lot more work & it is much more difficult to pass in philippine high schools, even elementary schools than in california elementary, middle & high schools.

no. most definitely not! i have this classmate in elementary who transferred to california when she was 13. she was bragging that she's a straight A student there when here, she was not able to make it to the Top 10. she was not even able to make it to my high school.
i came from a science high school and boy, the curriculum would drive you nuts if you were not used to a rigid schedule with tough lessons. we were also tackling college-level subjects. we had algebra in our freshman year. our geometry was mind-boggling. we also had research subjects that require us to do theses and dissertations. our science subjects too - biology, chemistry and physics were tough.
