Try to be sarcastic, try to turn their diss back on them.
Example:
Person A: You're so ugly!
Person B: Wow, how can you call me that when you look like a *insert something ugly here*?
With practice, you'll be able to come up with your own.

If someone calls me ugly, I usually respond with, "No, I think you look just fine, but a new attitude would do wonders for your complexion."

Let it go and walk smiling away. You cant rise above something and be better by lowering yourself to exact revenge. When you lower yourself to their level, you have just become predictable. Just like them. Be the one that got away. It cheapens their self esteem.

personally I am trying to learn to have sarcasm/irony as a weapon against insulting people (though I'm still not that great at it)
maybe you can be sarcastic or give them a backhanded compliment
