The y outside of the parentheses means it needs to be multiplied by each term inside the parentheses.

(xy + 5y) + 2y

xy + 5y + 2y Combine like terms.

xy + 7y You are finished!

(You can't add the xy to the 7y since the x is also an unknown value.)

first distribute the y:
xy+5y+2y
combine like terms:
xy+7y
factor out the y:
y(x+7)
