Since all perception is observer based how can we be sure of any event at any time is happening the way that we understand it to be happening.

For example, two men with guns walk into a bank carrying bags. Three people see this and see three different things.
Person one sees the guns and the bags and believes that it is a robbery.
Person two sees the guns and the insignia on the bags and believes they are guards transporting valuables to the bank.
Person three sees the bags and remembers the men’s faces from the news as being plain clothed police officers investigating a robbery.

Three people see the same event and come to three different conclusions, and while I know that this event is out of context and they would all know soon enough what was happening the old adage is true, first impressions last. So my question is...

How can we trust our perception of events at any time if we are unable to determine the truth behind a situation in the moment?

Please explain your reasoning.

Thanks.

Since our perception is indeed relative, our means of understanding any truth is repetitive consistency..... if we see the same thing at different times and there is consistent perception each time, we conclude that it must be true. Similarly, if the event is perceived as the same by many people independently, we conclude it to be truly happening. In other words, all our truths are merely a logical reconfirmation of the perceptive experience...... each perception is sifted in our mind and tested by our logic before coming to any conclusion, because we are indeed aware that perception is subjective and relative.

Hope this makes sense.

The best solution is that under duress one should not trust their own perception , here is the perfect place to take the majority rules into serious consideration , when comes to viewing one owns perception of events . It has happened to me I was shock to find what I believed to be different after viewing a photo of the event at hand ....

We can't trust our perception, yet we constantly act "as if" we can. Otherwise, we are left in a state of solisistic indifference to the world. I mean your example has drama, but each person's perceptions are perpetual. How do you know that these letters are here for you to read? How do you know that some computer program did not randomly select this answer? When push comes to shove, we are left distrusting our perception without having any epistemological means to get around them.

if you are the sort of person who pays extremely close attention to detail

as well as uses the occums razor theory...

and deductional reasoning,

you can figure out quite a bit..

but we must have somewhat of a detachment from emotion to see our perceptions reality
emotion and ego clouds our judgement along with many other human syndromes

but the truth is you can never fully trust your perceptions and must be open to the fact that you may be wrong time and time again
