how much does a group like queen make for this song just for playing it on a commercial a few times, or like any song in a movie...

It depends on the original contracts and what was negotiated. Sometimes artists sell all rights to things (music, artwork, books) so they don't get future royalties, the publishing house does.

As much as their legal team is able to get for them. The more popular the group, the more recognizable the song, the higher the price.

I dunno i think it depends on how long it plays for but the whole royalties thing in the entertainment biz is sometimes decided by the record company and or the artists themselves and it may vary
