Reagan did nothing to force the end of the cold war.

His speech writers were very good at his taking credit for it.

This question is soley regarding what would have best benefitted the U.S.?

I think that if there were two superpowers in opposition, it would polarize the remainder of the countries towards one or the other. While they might not be equally divided, it would benefit the U.S. because more of them would have sided with the U.S. than they do now.

It has become common knowledge that the USSR did not maintain its equipment adequately during the Cold War and had the ultimate threat ever come to a head, they would not have been much of a danger to anyone other than themselves. But for appearance's sake, it was good for there to be another entity out there that seemed to be as much of a power in the world.

It was NOT a mistake, and it was indeed in the best interest of the united States of America.

Unfortunately, the fed felt we needed a new big monster across the ocean to replace the big red monster Reagan slew so they arranged for a big green monster (Islam) to replace the big red monster Reagan brought down.

You see, it's a little tough to raise taxes when everything's going smoothly, so crisis' and wars are manufactured to that end.

Thus the "war on drugs", WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Kosovo, Gulf1&2, federal education, the "war on poverty" (LBJ), all the federal agencies created in the 30's and 70's. These are nothing more than profit-generating devices.

You'll notice that all these agencies do is create problems that require more and more money to fix. Then the money spent to fix the problems creates more problems and the cycle continues.

The REAL solution is to shut down all non-Constitutional and all un-Constitutional federal departments and agencies and de-incorporate the government.

Hey, it's cynical, but true.

Well he didn't force it, he talked his way into it, but Yes I believe now it was a mistake. The two superpowers seemed to keep a certain balance in the world. The fall of the Soviet Union was the door to globalization.

Regan was lucky enough to be in office when the soviets ran out of money! How much effect he actually had on the outcome of the cold war, is open to argument!

to answer your question, do you think it was a mistake to help millions of people gain freedom and independence from the Zionist , Communist Russians,? I do agree that there is much more crime and such as never seen before , but freedom has its own value, even in the face of danger,I wish we had a perfect world , but, we don't and we never will, But, freedom is one of the most valuable assets anyone could have, even tho so many of our people don't even stop to think about it as they have always lived free, they don't even realize they are on the verge of losing their freedom that is what is left of it, then one day they will wake up and find they have no freedom period, won't they be surprised ?
