Two people have shown you the correct method.To make it simpler think of the equation to find the perimeter. Perimeter is a triangle is the total of all three sides.You have been given the length of two sides as well as the perimeter.You need to find out the length of the third side. If you try to forget the letters just think of a simple triangle.( I know these are not the measurements in your triangle) Side 1 is 4 feet, side 2 is 7 feet and the perimeter is19 feet.You must find the length of the third side. FIRST do your equation for perimeter. Side 1 is 4'+side 2 is7' + side 3 is unknown so it is x =perimeter. SECOND 4'+7'+x=19 THIRD 11+x=19 FOURTH you need to find the value of x so x=19 -11 then you find x=8.You now know that the third side is 8'. To answer you problem you do the same steps.There are many websites that can help you to learn these basic steps in algebra It is a very good thing you are asking for help.I will check out some sites and post it here.Good luck.

Perimeter = sum of all sides
10x + 8 = [3(x+2)] + [5x +3] + unknown side
10x + 8 = 3x + 6 + 5x + 3 + unknown side
10x + 8 = 8x + 9 + unknown side
[10x + 8] - 8x - 9 = unknown side
2x -1 = unknown side length

You're given the perimeter P=10x+8, s1 = 3(x+2) s2 = 5x+3
Now since perimeter is the total of the sides then s3 should be...

s1+s2+s3 = P
3(x+2) + (5x+3) + s3 = 10x+8
3x+6 + 5x+3 + s3 = 10x+8
8x+9 + s3 = 10x+8
s3 = 10x+8 -(8x+9)
s3 = 10x-8x+8-9

s3 = 2x - 1
