Yes, but US dose not order them. You can find 4cyl 1, 3, and 5 series in some European and Asian ( and maybe African) countries.

The 70's BMW 2002 were 4 cyl.
1977-1983 BMW 320i's were all 4cyl in the US.
The 318i has always been a 4 cyl.
The first M3 was a 4 cyl (an expensive, hard to maintain 4 cyl).
But no 5,6,7, or 8 series cars were 4 Cylinders.
I think the Z1 may have been a 4 cyl, but it was not too popular.

The new 1 series might come in a 4 cyl. too, not too sure about that.

Yes, they do.

In the US, most people only know of the E36 318i, 318is and 318ti. BMW have since stopped selling 4 cylinder cars in the US.

In the rest of the world, 4 cylinder BMW cars have always been popular because for many countries; how much owners pay for their annual registration (road tax) and insurance depends on engine size; the bigger the engine, the more you pay. The other factor is of course high fuel prices (much higher than the US).

Examples of these models past & present include (depending on countries):
316i (4dr, coupe & compact),
318i/is/Ci/ti (4dr, cabriolet, coupe, compact & touring), ,
320i(4dr, cabriolet, coupe & touring),
518i(4dr, touring),
520i(4dr, touring).
