My old boss told me a story of what he did to his goldfish. He was drunk one night and crashed his head into his fish tank and scared the crap out of the fish, after that night he reckons they wouldn't go to the glass to see him anymore because they were too scared so he got angry and emptied half of their water and re-filled the tank with boiling water and boiled them alive. I was absolutely horrified because I HATE animal cruelty as much as I cant stand people who harm children. I think that is sick and disgusting and it changed how I felt about him as a person forever. How would you react?

He is married with children actually. He is a VERY nice guy, everything about him was awesome until he told me about the fish, he thought it was funny too.

And don't worry I am not the type to hold back how I feel about something. I always make friends with my bosses so I did tell him exactly what I thought about it and that I was angry and couldn't understand why he would do something like that AND that it is not funny!

Hate is too strong of a word to use I think. I feel it ok to hate the deed, not the person. What he did was uncalled for and he has some deep issues to take care of. I agree that I too could never look at him the same. He is your boss, if its too hard for your there, think about changing jobs. I would let him know how I felt about what he did, but I would do it in a way that does not make him mad.
Bottom line, the guy is crazy and I would get another job.

Yeah, that guy sounds like a pr*ck. I'm not a vegetarian & I don't believe in animal rights & all that but I'm not for animal cruelty, that's wrong. Nothing should have to suffer. Child cruelty is a different story, now that will get me livid & want to go kick a person's a** for real. I don't think you should hold it against him forever, unless he's just a d*ck forever. When I was a teen I put a coral snake is a jar of alcohol to watch it die & my husband as a kid stuck fire crackers up frogs butts & it was very wrong but we have matured & got more brains now & realize that that was wrong & cruel to do that, so I don't think that boiling his goldfish is enough to hate him forever unless he just never gives & crap about causing living things pain.

If what he told you was true, it's totally horrible!! I can't stand to be around people (or should I say MONSTERS!) that hurt, torture, abuse other living things, be they animals or people!!! I also hate it when people boil crabs and lobsters alive...
I don't believe it when they try to claim that these shelled creatures don't feel pain. It makes me sad and sickens me...however, they probabbly really believe that. But as for your old boss, he did it out of hatred and cruelty.

I'd tell him he is / was a very sick puppy and that he'd gone down the ranks in your book of respect. That is an awful awful story, some people are so cruel. I can't help but shake my head in disbelief! Your boss needs a reality check huh... Sad sad sad...

Well, if he's still my boss I guess I can't really do anything but at least I know his attitude and character a lot better. I would not trust him anymore and have to be careful around him.
Anyone who could do that to animals is sick!

That would definitely change my opinion of him. I hate animal cruelty as well. I don't think I could respect him after hearing a story like that. I love animals and hate it when people hurt animals for any reason.

Borderline personality disorder, not otherwise specified.
Don't trust this guy with your kids...
There are a lot of guys who are married with kids and seem "nice" on the outside but have serious, SERIOUS issues... this is just a small display of the larger problem inside his head.
The fact that he would share this "occurrence" with his workers reveals he thinks it's the "norm" which obviously we know it's not...
Don't ask him to "pet sit" for you when you go out of town, (just kidding), but seriously.... the diagnosis for this guy is as above...

Not only is he an @ss, it sounds like he has a serious drinking problem. I would tell him that maybe he needs to get some professional help. I'm glad to hear that he is your former boss.

what I cant understand is why anyone would tell someone else that they did this, Did he think it would impress you?
When you have a pet, no matter what kind, It is cruel to harm them in anyway. It is our job to give our pets a pleasant life. not kill them for fun.
Maybe he was telling you a fable of why a person shouldnt get drunk to that extent.

Yes, I would hate such a person. I have brothers who, as children, would beat our dog just to hear it scream. They thought the screams were funny. I do not trust them, even now, even though they are family.
