Bring your marriage certificate to the social security office and the dmv...they'll change it. Changing your name on credit cards and such is pretty easy just call them. You'll have to go to the bank with your marriage certificate though.
oh and no you don't have to change your name...do it only if you want

You have to contact both Social Security office and or the DMV with your marriage certificate. You may have to fill out some paper work and everything will be legally changed. If you try to file taxes next year under your new last name without going to the SS office the IRS will reject your taxes stating that the names and social security number don't match... Good luck and CONGRATS!!!

First you have to wait until you get your marriage certificate in the mail it takes 1 to 2 months. Then when you do get it take it to the social security office and apply for a name change. After you get your s.s. card you can then go to the dmv to change your name there. Once you get your new I.D. you can go to the bank and change it there. It is a long process. Your credit cards can be changed over the phone. Make sure they spell it correctly.

Go to your local Social Security office (its an actual place, an office building) with your marriage license and social security card. They will legally change your name for you if you want your husband's last name. If you don't want to change your name I don't think you need to do anything, though I would call, you may have to change your "relationship" status to married from single.
Then you can go to the DMV with your new SS card, marriage license, drivers license and new proof of new address (if you have moved). They will get you a new license.

You need copies of your marriage certificate, some places may want an original, call to find out ahead of time. And then order the extras ones you need. Then you go to the dmv and change your drivers license, and you can call social security to send you the application, or just go up there and do it. Any credit cards, or utility's in your name, you can just call them. And for a passport, you have to get a passport amendment/validation application and send them your old one with the application.
And you only have to change your last name if you want too.

I took marriage license to Soc. Security... then took both to dmv and voila... new name.
But you do not have to change your name.. it's a choice.
I'm divorced and the lawyer changed my name back in the filing of the divorce, but I've never done the dmv and ss thing so I'm working under a "AKA" (also known as)
with my married name...

Location is irrelevant. You should change your last name, when you marry. This thing of not changing it is, insulting.
