So yesterday, when I went to the bathroom, I saw a little pink, but it kind of went away. Then this evening, it came back and was red. So would you say my period started yesterday or today?

Your period started yesterday, that is when the colour changed, doesn't matter if it's pink or green..... actually it does, if it's green then you should go to Area 51

Well, the only reason to know when your period started is to know when you are due for the next one and incase you get pregnant for the doctors to estimate when you are due. What I do is I mark both days in the calendar so the next month I know the first day marked was a "maybe" and the next was a "for sure".
