I've been looking to buy a new, very nice laptop that comes with XP instead of stupid Vista, and I *finally* found one. But its an Alienware, and I've heard that Alienware's are overpriced. So I'm wondering if this is a good one for the price.
It's got an Nvidia GeForce 9700 GS video card, 2gb of memory, 1.8 ghz processor (could choose a better one, but I want to keep down the price), Windows XP, and a 100gb hard drive at 7200 rpm. It'll cost me $1800. Is this good or bad?
I'm planning on using it for lots of college stuff and semi-serious gaming. Will a 1.8ghz processor be too slow if I'm gonna use it for this?

ahh... these people don't know anything.
so frustrating for people who need answers.
Tha's a good deal. You have a great video card, espically for a laptop. you can play all modern games with it. These idiots don't know that your hard drive is 7200 RPM, which is far superior their laptops (unless they have one too) If the cpu is intel core 2 duo, then it is a great deal!!!!!!!!!!
the 1.8 GHz core 2 duo will own 3.4 GHz Pentium 4s in multitasking and multimedia.
Still in about 2 years, all the games will use vista, so be warned.
I totally advise you to take it, though.
I hope this helps.

Purchase Vista. It is pretty much the same as Xp. Microsoft is already working on the replacement to Vista then you will be really outdated. That way you may purchase any brand or speed you wish. The 2gb and the video card are good.PC World Magazine rates Laptops and I haven't seen one by Alienware on their lists.

That is outrageously expensive. You can buy the same machine in an HP/Sony/Dell for a lot less AND buy a copy of XP Pro and install it.
Vista is not that bad. The thing is you need to make sure it has A LOT of RAM. 2gb+. The people that have issues with Vista are the ones trying to upgrade on a system that is not TOTALLY Vista compliant. A unit that comes with Vista is already compliant and you should not have any issues.

Maybe you could provide a model number on the laptop so the specifications can be reviewed. For instance, is this a dual core processor?
You might also look into pricing corporate grade laptops because they usually have a very good video ( for presentations) and they are pretty rugged. Basic Dell Precision is $2000.

Instead of getting an Alienware, you should get a Toshiba. I would highly recommend a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092. It comes with Windows XP, which you were looking for. It has the Media Center Edition.

Check out the Dell vostro line they still give you the XP option at a better price. You can get a NV8600,a T7700, and have big bucks left over.

wow XD...rip off..the only ok thing about it is the video card...and yeah..good luck finding a new comp without vista :/...I hate it and so do most ppl....so what a few of them do is just buy one with windows vista and downgrade it to XP..i;ve done it on 3 desktops and 1 laptops...u can get a better laptop than that for less than 1000 bucks..and 100gb harddrive is way too small..try looking on tigerdirect.com they usually have a few laptops with windows xp on it :)...good luck

Hi. Most gaming machines are based on a good graphics card so a better GPU may satisfy you more. If this machine meets your need though, try it. Each game is different in its requirements. If this one works well for you. go for it!

Its not worth it... 1.8Ghz can't do much... Gateway computers are much better for their price. go to gateway.com But that computer won't be able to play alot of good games with out major lag.
