Hi everybody. I am a 19 year old female, and just recently got a great job @ a laboratory where they have full benefits. I currently have BCBS TX health insurance (the high plan) and I am wanting to look into having a breast reduction really soon. I am currently a 40D and have somewhat of a "hunchback" going on. I constantly find myself slouching and when I try to straighten my back up, I only do it for a second or two because the weight ends up making me slouch again. I really don't want to have back problems the older I get, but I'm afraid if I don't do something about it, then I will by the time I am 25 or so. I also have pretty obvious stretch marks on the sides of my breast from the weight. Does anyone know or have any info on how I go about having this done? Thank so much!!

First check your health directory for plastic surgeons. If you end up choosing a doctor out of your health plan you could pay more out of pocket.

Find out if you need a referral for a PS first. Get one from your family doctor, then talk to several PS's before choosing.

They'll take pics, ask questions, and hand in documentation to your insurance company for approval.

That usually takes 4 weeks or so, depending on how much you get on their case and keep them on their toes.

I worked for a health insurance for about 10 years. They covered the Breast Reduction, but a criteria needed to be met. Most insurances have their own policies with the criteria and there are some laws they need to follow. The criteria usually is to lose weight (that's the first thing they say to avoid paying for the reduction).

Check with your insurance company and find out. With what you describe, sounds like you may qualify.

I am considering this reduction also, but I thought I would give myself another few months to make a final decision. I have seen other answers on this board. From what I have read, you make an appt with a plastic surgeon, he/she takes photos and writes down problems you are having. Heshe submits it to the inurance company, and it takes 6-8 weeks for approval. Good luck, and email me if you do go through with the procedure.

you can contact your insurance company. They'll have requirements that you need to fill. Most likely, if you can get your physician to suggest it, it should be covered. You'll have to send pics to the ins. co.
