What is the point in going to college and drinking crazy and getting way drunk every weekend? I went to college and din't do that stuff. I just don't see how getting drunk and throwing up is a form of a good time. Why do these people do this? It does not even look cool when I see my old high school classmates in pictures with beer bongs and stuff. WHy is this cool? And why does it happen over and over. How is this THAT great?

First they do it because they can and it is great because they did it. There is no reasoning behind any of it! That is the wonders of the college years be proud if you make it out of them!

I couldn't agree more.

I'm 17 I'm going to University next year and I hate the stuff!

My friends go out every weekend, get drunk, throw up everywhere, pass out, sometimes even end up in hospital from stupidly drinking too much.

I've seen what it can do to you. My step dad was an alcoholic. He was abusive when he was drunk and I couldn't stand it.

It's also a waste of money. You're just going to pi$$ it out.

I even talked to my boyfriend about it, he's a regular drinker. He said it's just about being with your mates and having a good time, but can't you do that without being drunk off your face?

Also, this is when teen pregnancies happen and rape and sexually and physical abuse can occur. The thing is when you're drunk you make stupid choices that you'll most likely regret.

What I hate the most is drunk drivers. Some people are so selfish. It's not usually the drunk driver who dies either, it's the sober driver.

I believe everything in moderation, drinking isn't bad it's just how people are drinking that's the problem.

It's not great! And you're more intelligent than the great majority of college students. But everyone does it for their own personal reasons. Some have no self-confidence and fear they won't fit in, so they follow everybody else. Others with common sense, may drink to be sociable but also know when to quit. Others are true alcoholics and really can't stop themselves. Those are the ones I feel sorriest for. They will have a life-time fight with alcohol. And then there are those, who are truly immature who think it's "funny" to act out to the limit, with either drugs or alcolhol or both. They mistakenly think because they are young, that no harm will be done. It's very hard on the body to over-indulge in anything. Stupid behavior in general though, is fuelled by immaturity, inexperience, lack of judgement and lack of strong self-identity. It's the sheep syndrome. Blindly following others, fuelled by an under-developed self. How many college students have gone out for a night on the town, only to end up trying to deal with the after-effects of overindulging, the very next day? Yet, they go back and do it again. I had friends like that in college. I know now, as I'm older, that there were personal problems that caused them to act as they did. I went out for a drink now and then, but would never end up totally inebriated or out of it, as did many of my friends. The more grounded you are as a person, the less chance you'll act like an idiot. Some can be young and stupid and survive it all, but it all comes down to how strong you are inside, as a human being. You must be stronger than you realize for your young years!

I think the independence gets to some and they go overboard with it. I personally think it is stupid that much of the college experience is not focused on learning anymore, it is about parties and what not. I personally don't have a problem with people going out and partying, but I don't think college is the place, especially since noone gets carded at parties and many underaged kids are drinking. I know many 15-19 year old who have died from alcohol poisioning or were stupid and fell off balconies or from windows because they were drunk and died. I just think it is outrageous. I always hear teens speak out about how stupid age laws are for drinking, well look what happens when you do.
