It seems to have good specs and I am not a techi and I want to buy one for my regular research, email, music and sometimes DVD playing purposes. I don't play games so I don't care about that. Right now I have a Dell Latitude C 600 which I really liked but I need an upgrade now. Please guide me if Inspiron 1501 would be a good option.

Pretty simple reason is that it is an old model, it has been replaced by the 1520s and 1521s. It is actually a pretty good deal, since they changed very little on the 1521(the update to the 1501) except for adding the colored lids, but since the 1501 is an old model, they pretty much have to lower the price to get rid of them. For what you are talking about, no gaming, that would be a great deal for you. Just make sure to get at least 1GB of RAM, and upgrade the hard drive if you plan to store a lot of stuff on it.

That's a BASE price. Have you gone through the process of "customizing" an order? They offer so many add-ons, it ends up costing almost twice as much as the "base" model that's priced so cheaply. I've tried it, with both Dell and HP.

Buying a "cheap" computer is like buying a "cheap" car. You get what you pay for and if you want anything better than a base model, you pay extra for it.

The model has been replaced with a new generation called the 1521. So basicly it is a big clearance sale. Still a very good computer at a great price.
