I mean, after the dust settled we invaded the country that did attack us. But then, we went and invaded another country that had nothing to do with the attacks and half the population of America didn't want that war. Why did we invade a sovreign nation, sure it's leader was a horrible dictator, but there are dictators all over the world. Shouldn't we have just focused on Japan for attacking us on Pearl Harbor and not worried about Hitler in Germany? I mean, isn't the right thing to do?

P.S. There's even talk that Roosevelt knew of the attacks on Pearl Harbor and let them happen or he was completey behind the whole thing.

Maybe all of you should read the ENTIRE question, not just the headline based on the assumption this is about the War in Iraq.

I'm so confused! Why do so many people keep telling me things about 9/11 and Iraq?

Alexis, just pointing out a few details about previous wars. WW2 and the situation with Iraq aren't exactly the same, but there are some surprising similarities. ^_^

Yea really! FDR had no grounds for attacking them peaceful Germans! I finally understand the liberal logic pertaining to GWB and the Iraq war!! It finally makes sense why GWB took down the towers, to convince us to go to war!!

Not a bad idea acot! Let's start kickin' some @rse, starting with those beady eyed, flapping head Canadians!! Let me hear your battle cry!! ARG!!! I Dare Liberals to read all of this !!! First of all To the Libatwits that say oil is the main reason.Your wrong that's why you are a libatwit! And the Roosevelt Conspiracies Have never been proved.Much Like the Liberals of to day with there 911 conspiracies .It's pure Bull .Made up by Liberals because they don't like are President. How Pathetic is that? You know Damn well why we attracted another country!!! As far as Hitler goes .You think we should have not bothered with him huh? Just let him blow up US ships at random .Not just war ships .All ships! Bear in mind that was the main source of travel back then .And one more little thing would be He Declared war on us. He figured that Italy would join in and we where already fighting Japan with more then half of are big war ships destroyed from P/H . Hell I don't know why I'm wasting my time explaining this . Liberals will just spin this (Lie) So WHY don't you pick up a history book and read for your self !!! You see Liberals hate you to do this because you might educate your self about war instead of condemning the United States for some lie a Liberal told you!!! Remember you can be as smart as a Republican or dumb as a Liberal You have a choice!!!

As far as Germany- we started with Japan, but it was called World War for a reason, it was the world against 2 countries (actually several other as well, but they were nobodies.)

As far as Iraq-To prevent Iraq from pulling a 9/11 on us. Bush warned Saddam for months to let the U.N. weapon inspectors back in to check for weapons. Bush specifically gave him a warning that we would invade if he did not let the weapon inspectors in, which Saddam previously had agreed to before kicking them out. Wouldn't you rather be safe than sorry? What if he did have W.MD. on the scale we thought he might? (And he did have W.M.D, just not as powerful as we expected/)As far as anyone knew at the time he was capable of an attack worse than 9/11, but now we see that they were weak. We still have to finish the job that we set out to do which is bring Democracy to their country.

Roosevelt did know about the attacks on Pearl Harbor several hours prior to event due to Magic intercepts (military intelligence success). Prior to entering Iraq all the worlds intelligence agencies thought Iraq had WMD. UN resolutions had placed sanctions from Gulf War I, for that very reason. Chemical Ali had used them on the Kurds. He just got hung for doing that. WMD and a madman at the helm who had contacts with Al Queada was the BEST KNOWLEDGE WE HAD AT THE TIME. We are no longer going to wait for the bad guys to hit first especially if they MIGHT have WMD. How hard is that to understand????? Positive proof is no longer required. A loud mouth like Venezuela's Chavez and a reasonable suspicion of a WMD program and threats to the USA gets you dead.

We were getting reports that Saddam was either seeking to acquire or had already acquired weapons of mass destruction. So rather than be attacked THEN attack them, we chose to use a little foresight.

President Bush made a statement that everyone hailed him for after 9/11. He said we would relentlessly seek out any country who participated in or harbored terrorism. Basically he said we're not going to tolerate it ANYwhere ANYmore. I understand that there's nothing that ties Saddam to 9/11, but how many leaders and influential people of Al-Qaida have we found IN Iraq? For a while there it seemed like every night I turned on the TV there was another captured.

As a country, it is in our best interest to not allow genocide and mass killing go on. Everyone now wants us to go to the Sudan and stabilize THAT region. Well, first of all, I haven't heard of many Sudanese terrorists flying 747s into skyscrapers or strappin C4 to their chest and pulling the trigger in a crowded intersection.

Furthermore, in my opinion, for being a country with one of the strongest militaries in the world it is our obligation to come to the aid of people who need it. Not just YOU hurt me so I'll hurt just you. Did Hitler deserve to be in power? was what he was doing right? Is the world safer with Saddam 6 feet under?

Oh and need I remind you that we didn't just invade Japan, we bombed the bastards back to the stone age. Maybe we should take a page out of history and call it a day?

Think back to the time before GW Bush became president. Do you remember Hussein playing all those games with the inspectors, pretending to have WMDs (or not) while moving any evidence of his WMD programs out of Iraq and murdering anyone who he thought might be standing in his way, or in the way of his sons? And try to recall the Democrats all signing letters to the president stating that it was, in their view, deathly important that we do whatever was necessary to stop Hussein, including invading Iraq. Remember that, too? I know it's difficult with that obvious case of LMSV you have (Liberal Selective Memory Disorder) but do try to keep up. It's all a matter of public record, not some Republican trick.

Then you take a mighty leap to the past, but I'm flexible. Yes, Japan attacked our fleet at Pearl Harbor, and attacked UK interests in southeast Asia as well, in December of 1941. Check your history book and you'll see that *Germany declared war on us* shortly after we declared war on Japan. We had no choice but to worry about Hitler.

There's "talk" about a lot of stuff, most of it is complete bullshyt. You need to focus on the known facts first.

Just a quick heads up to anyone who hasn't got the memo yet..

There is a growing awareness movement in our country. Americans are realizing and accepting the fact that our government is using to terrorism to push their agenda to illegally invade any foreign country it wishes, launch illegal wars, control Middle East oil, stifle our freedoms and setup a domestic police state.. "for our security"

Millions of people have come to realize that Terrorism is a toolbeing used by the Administration. A very powerful fear mongering tool. This makes one have to question the real truth about 9/11.There is a mountain of irrefutable evidence that proves without a shadow of a doubt that 9/11 was the brainchild and work of rogue elments within our own the government.

You will never see anything that I'm saying on FOX News,MSNBC,CNN or any other mainstream media source for that matter. They cannot deviate away from National Policy. They are either directly or indirectly regurgitate White House Press releases and henceforth just perpetuate the propaganda released from the Pentagon.

Once your paradigm has shifted, you will laugh when you see Bush on TV saying "we have to attack and invade Country X because the terrorist will get us."
This will seem as naive and silly to you as your parents saying you better go to bed before 8 or the boogeyman will get you...lol

Do your research, you can check out my sources below. You will feel liberated and enlightened to know the truth. You will know who's really behind the terrorism and why they want and need terror. Do not live in fear of Al-Qaida, they are merely just the shadow on the wall. Live in fear of the shadow maker, this is your true enemy.

Looks like only one person prior to me read the whole question.
You must realize by now that most libs have an uncontrollable hatred for GWB. Most of them either were not alive during WWII or learned nothing in History Class other than America is evil.
To answer your well thought out question, Germany did not attack us but she was an Axis power along with Japan and Italy. All three needed to be beaten at a horrible cost.
Who was it that said something about those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it? He was wise.

Edit: My typing is slow. I see that others have indeed read the entire question.

Wars are often fought based on political goals.

In the example of WW2, our allies had already been attacked, and Japan and Germany were allied -- and Japan had attacked the US directly.

So, given that one half of an allied pair had attacked us, and given that the other half was in danger of destroying our allies -- it made sense to engage on both fronts.

The main reason to stay out of WW2 was based on an isolationist policy -- once it became clear that wasn't going to work, it really didn't matter much if we engaged only in the Pacific or engaged in Europe as well.

And once we decided not be isolationist, we had no excuse for not helping our allies in Europe.

after japan attacked we declared war on them...
hitler, being a part of the axis and an ally of japan was required by his treaty with japan,to declare war on us...

allegedly, roosevelt heard some rattlings that the attack was going to happen but it is more likely that it was apathy on the pearl harbor commanders part(he was playing golf at the time)that the attack went off as easily as it did.
he allegedly had the same info as the pres. but wrote it off too..........
