I think he still wore #5 just as he did with the Yankees

As a Yankees player, DiMaggio wore #9 in 1936 and his much more famous #5, now retired, in 1937-42 and '46-51.

As a coach for the Oakland Athletics in 1968-69, DiMaggio wore his familiar #5 again.

He was never a member of the Oakland A's as a player.

Check YOUR history.

He played for the San Fransisco Seals in the Pacific Coast league in the early 1930s.

His ENTIRE major league career (1,736 games) was spent with the New York Yankees, and no one else:

The A's have retired 5 numbers, but of course, Dimaggio's was not one of them, because he never played for them...

5 its retired in Oakland as well. I dont think he played for the A's, but he was the hitting coach and part owner in the 60's
