I notice that a lot of people have thier babies in bassinets for the first few months of life, well. I never had one and I always put my son in his crib from the time we came home from the hospital. We did put him in an infant seat for a week or 2 and here and there next to the bed (bed on floor), but never a bassinet. Were we wrong to put him in the crib at such a young age? I mean, he didn't mind it and seemed fine. Why do people use the bassinets? Am I bad?

No your not wrong...
Its a personal choice..
I have had my daughter sleepling in her crib since she came home from the hospital. I never used one...
I was always told its harder to get them used to sleeping in a crib after used to the bassinet ... My daughter done fine sleepling in her crib.

No. I was in a similar situation when my son was born. My one bedroom apartment is very small and my bedroom is so small I didn't have room for a bassinet or a crib to fit in it. So I just went ahead and used a crib and because the rooms are so close together I put the crib in the next room closest to the bedroom.

Heck no, you're not bad! I put all my kids in a crib from the time they were born. We had it in our room for the first few months, then moved them to their own room. I think a lot of people use bassinets because they have the baby in their room and it's smaller than a crib.

My son used a crib from the day we brought him home from the hospital. Bassinets take up less space, and they are cute, but it's really a personal preference. My boy's 2 1/2 and he's fine.

You're not bad in any way. Bassinets are personal choices, I used one for both my kids. I think you did a good thing, that way you got your baby used to his own bed since the beginning, and didn't have to fight with him later on to get him in his crib or his bed. You are in NO WAY a bad parent!! If you're baby is happy and loved, then that's all that should matter, that's all that is important.

Heh, I lived in a 200 sq ft travel trailer when I had my son. You best believe I didn't have a basinette and a crib and a changing table and all that... I had him in bed with me (we practice safe co-sleeping) for the first 4 months, and let him sleep in his pack-n-play crib occasionally once he hit 4 months. I think people use basinettes because they are cute, maybe? I didn't have room or money for that sort of extravagance lol. You're not bad or wrong at all.
My friend actually put her first baby to sleep in a dresser drawer set out on the floor... This was "back in the day" but goes to show, not everyone uses the "right" equipment, and their babies are perfectly content with that!!

No, you are not bad. I used a cradle with my first one and he did not sleep well. After about 3 weeks I moved him into his own room in his crib and he slept much better. With my second I put him right in his room in his crib, I figured it was one less transition to have to put him through later. New research now shows that the risk of SIDS decreases if the baby sleeps in the same room with the parents for the first few months. (same room, not same bed for SIDS risks) So, with my next one I may try to keep baby in my room. Don't feel like you are bad, this was a personal choice, and nothing is wrong with it.

I only used a cradle next to our bed as it was a family heirloom and we were expected to use it. If I hadn't been obligated our kids would've gone straight into the cot too. I do feel it is better that way regardless of if you breastfeed or not. I used it for the minimum time (thank god I had big babies!) and then they went into the cot, but not without dramas.
There really isn't any need for a bassinette, its just the parents preference if they want to spend extra money on something that will only be used for maybe 2-3mths.
If someone gives you one, why not though?
The best thing you could've done was put the baby in the cot.

No, you did fine. People put their baby in a bassinette for lots of reasons. With my first baby, my father had made a beautiful cradle and my little baby slept there right next to the bed I shared with my husband. Needless to say, every time the kid moved, I woke up to comfort her. After about 2 months, we moved her into the crib in her own room. The second baby went right to the crib! :)
I think with that first baby, I was afraid that I wouldn't hear her when she woke up at night; but I learned (very quickly) that babies WILL BE HEARD! It's in their nature to be loud when they need attention . . . that way, they get and get it quickly! :)
So, NO you're not bad.
Best wishes to you and the boy! :D

You are fine. I used my bassinet one time. My son "talks" in his sleep and kept waking me and my hubby up. I put him in his crib and he and us sleep all night. Sometimes he sleeps in his swing. Whatever works for your family. Do not judge or compare your parenting skills.
People use them because it is closer to them, they can hear the baby cry and they have to walk less in the middle of the night.
I live in a two bedroom apartment. My sister uses a bassinet because her baby's room is too far away in her 4 bedroom house.
