No. Kids are entitled to their opinions too.
My Mum and I always had arguments when I was a teenager. Because, I cannot NOT speak my mind and she ALWAYS thought that saying what I mean was disrespectful, even though it's said in a polite way. But when I made her realize I have very valid points she started listening to me and now we can discuss issues without frustrating each other.

Maybe in the past...but nowadays, most kids reason out with their parents. Personally, I find it acceptable provided the tone of voice (of the kid) is neither rude nor disrespectful. Better yet, if the kid waits a while (after being scolded) and then talks with the parents to air his side. This way, both parties have cooled off and can really effect good communication.

that was what my mom told me when i was an angst-ridden teenager.
personally though, reasoning with them is not tantamount to answering them back. it is just a way of explaining things to them and making them understand you. but of course, parents being well, parents, especially in our culture, they will see it as a way of answering them back. thus, i just maintained my silence or reasoned with them only if there was a need to do so. or i'd seethe and write in my journal or play angst-ridden music while locking myself in my room. hehe!

Reasonning with your parents in a respectfull way is not bad, and often accepted by parents, But if you just reason out to hide your mistake, parents knew it so obviously , they will get mad at you like you rebelled against them.

No as long as you lower your voice and uses nice words. You can reason without yelling and with the correct choice of words, you can even convince them.

That's how it was growing up in our place. Our parents were raised that way and they implemented the same to their offsprings. Now they realized that their children are adults and listen to our opinions, even if we disagree.

i don't consider it as such. our home has always been encouraging in terms of speaking up and reasoning out. we just avoid raised voices and angry tones. and in the end we respect the decision of our elders.
