It is leaking fluid and hitting the muffler and blowing smoke everywhere when I drive.

Contact the local community college or trade school and see if they work on vehicles from non-students... Most do and charge just the price of parts. However time frame of getting it done is longer than a mechanic shop...

Others do work on the side wh are pros, and will usually charge about a 1/3 of dealer prices on labor but still , price cheaper if you can wait.

Sorry. Cheap and Reliable just do not go together.

In either case, the trans must be removed. If it is the torque converter seal, it is easy. If it is the pump seal, special tools are required.

you could try one of those pour in sealers that you can buy at any auto parts store for about $10.sorry i forgot the brand name.
