Best thing to do is let him go.
Wild animals don't do well as pets.
A few days is OK, but he really needs to go home.
If you want to keep him long term, you need a bigger tank. Not less than 25 gallons, and get one made for turtles, they have more floorspace which they need. Split it into land and pond areas and get a filter for the pond (trust me, stagnant water is not fun and will make the frog sick)
You need a UV lamp. They need at least 12 hours of UV light every day.
You need a heater, "room temp" can get too cold. Cold frogs have trouble digesting and may either hibernate, or die.
Get like 10 crickets to start. Put them in there and let him pick them off as he gets hungry. Chances are, he won't eat anyway. He needs other things to eat too. Frogs have a varied insect diet. Get vitamin powder, put the crickets in a large Ziplock bag, sprinkle them with the powder and dump them into the tank.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE let him go where you found him!
In his little froggie mind, he's been caught by predators planning to eat him. He can go into shock and die even if you do everything right.
Also, he may be sick or have parasites. Some can spread to humans (hand washing with soap is a must), but mostly, he could already be dying, and your kid doesn't want to see that.

Well, to be honest with you, it is better for him to be free in the "wild", in his natural habitat, there he will be able to thrive and be so much more healthier, but if you still insist on keeping this poor froggy shut up in a cage, then you will need more than crickets, you will need other types of live bugs, such as Beatles, flies, and not that much, I'd say about 8-9 a day, at first, see if he even eats them, sometimes animals, such as amphibians, will not eat, when encaged, and end up dieing, I once kept a turtle I found, and he became sorta deppresed, and refused to eat anything, and I ended up having to put him back so he would'nt die. Generaley, when you get an animal from the wild, and it is used to being in the wild, it wont respond very well, thats why it would be better to get a frog from a pet store, thats never been in the wild and is used to human contact and cages. I hope the little frog makes out OK!

I had a green frog over the winter ( my brother is a landscaper and found it in the pump reservoir of a pond they were tearing out, nearly frozen)I kept it in a 10 gallon tank.I used Eco earth and green moss as a substrate and kept it moist.I had a shallow ,oblong plastic food storage container filled with dechlorinated water for him to soak in.I fed him about 10 crickets and /or waxworms every other day. When spring came,he started getting very unhappy and was banging his head on the glass,so I took him to my cousin's house and let him go in her creek, where he swam happily away.I would suggest keeping the frog for just a few days and then letting it go.You can buy lovely tree frogs and firebelly toads, bred in captivity and used to living in an aquarium,at most pet stores.

He is an outdoor frog that probably needs to stay outside. If you son is young enough, maybe you can explain this to him and possibly get a replacement from the pet store.

add a bit more land. there is some special dirt you can buy that should do some good. you can buy a bit more than a dozen and that should be good for the week. i had frogs that did well, but to really make sure that it has everything necessary look up what species it is and ask a person working at a pet store.

I also have a sprint brother who would be 3 in June, and that i'm his lots older sister, yet from gazing my mum and dad errors, I even have some suggestion. My little brother, nonetheless, won't even nod off in his own mattress, so which you're a step forward there! If he falls asleep in my mum and dad mattress, they each and every so often carry him to his mattress and he too sleep there till approximately lifeless night, 3 am on the maximum recent. whilst he wakes up, he screams for mom or dad, then they create him to their mattress. The few situations they tried letting him scream, it in no way ended so as that they only picked him up. one factor you should objective is transitioning slowly. My mum and dad have tried in basic terms putting my brother's mattress of their room, so he would be drowsing on his own yet of their presence. yet another factor you should do, is sleep with him in his mattress for some nights if in any respect achieveable to instruct him his room is okay too. What constantly encourages my little brother are decal-reward charts. Award your son a decal for his shirt or maybe if and a small decal for his chart every time he sleep interior the direction of the evening. Then, whilst he reaches a definite form of stickers (do not enable it drag out too long, you desire him to be certain the end results of his movements) you could reward him with a definite trip or activity of a few sort. i'm hoping those concepts help! good success!
