Perhaps the questioner must be reminded that Jehovah's Witnesses are unique for their rejection of paganisms, use of God's personal name, and global preaching by every active adherent. No other religious organization can claim such purity of worship.
These facts about Jehovah's Witnesses are perhaps relevant to this question. The more one compares this Christian religion with others, the more remarkable it is shown to be.
1. Jehovah's Witnesses have no paid clergy. Yet they remain tightly organized with more than 6.5 million active Jehovah's Witness preachers (about 16 million associate themselves with the religion). Even fulltime preachers and workers at their branch offices are unpaid volunteers.
2. There is no elite class among Jehovah's Witnesses. Even the few 'anointed' among them enjoy no special privileges in their congregations on earth. An anointed person (one of those relative few with a heavenly hope) is not elevated above his fellow congregants in any way, and he may not even qualify for appointment as a simple 'deacon' or elder. There are no titles; EVERYONE is addressed as 'brother' or 'sister'.
3. No person benefits economically from the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Even the 8 to 20 men who serve on their Governing Body receive simply room, board, medical care, and reimbursement for certain personal expenses according to the exact same provision as every other branch volunteer.
4. About a hundred men have served on Jehovah's Witnesses' Governing Body committee during the past 125 years or so. The vast majority of them have spent the vast majority of their adult lives volunteering for their organization's purposes, and the vast majority have died faithfully and near-pennilessly while still under their legal 'vow of poverty'.
5. Amazingly, Jehovah's Witnesses did not splinter as a sect from some other religion. Instead, a truly tiny but sincere group of bible students studied only the Scriptures to determine the will of God. Thus their religion remains absolutely independent of and not carrying the sins of Christendom's history, yet carries the authority of Christ's teachings.
6. Despite the distortions of anti-Witnesses, throughout their modern history Jehovah's Witnesses have refused to claim divine inspiration or infallibility for their teachings. They have pointed to the bible (and not any particular translation) as the only inspired infallible means of knowing God's thoughts. For over 125 years, their teachings have been presented as merely the results of sincere bible research by imperfect but godly humans.

The family you describe is not a Jehovah's Witness. Just because Witnesses may come by and talk to them, doesn't mean they are a Witness. You must be an active baptized member to be considered a Jehovah's Witnesses.
We take drunkenness and illegal activities very serious. If the family you describe were Witnesses, they would not be in good standing in the congregation and fellow Witnesses would not associate with them.
You may think that nobody cares, but there are close to 7 million witnesses in 236 lands with another 6 million studying the bible with Jehovah's Witnesses.
You have the right to your opinion, but that does not reflect everyone elses. You might want to re-think calling others morons...

Have you ever talked to the Witnesses and found out for yourself if it's a scam? Some people call themselves Jehovah's Witnesses, but are so far from being one. Just because someone is a Witness doesn't automatically mean they aren't human either. Everyone makes mistakes.

My Wife and I were baptized in Aug. 1996.
I can truthfully say from my heart to yours that our Religion is not a scam. We preach door to door because we are commanded to do so by Jesus. We preach because of our love for Jehovah and to make his name known through out the whole world. We also love our neighbor as ourselves. Jehovah's Witnesses are some of the most loving people you will ever meet. We truly love from the heart and are very sincere. No one in our Organization is paid for what they do.

I don't think they are morons, but I don't hold them in the highest regard if thats what you mean.
If the family is baptized as JW's, then welcome to the world of 2 tier living. What is allowed to pass for cult leaders and ones on the right track would be enough to disfellowship the rest of us. Drunkenness and drug trafficking are 2 offenses that have been used to disfellowship people in the past. These are used inconsistently though.

I love nothing more than the negative truth being cast on Jehovah's Witnesses, but I have to say that family certainly can't be active Jehovah's Witnesses. They would be disfellowshipped. JW's have eyes behind their heads and you better believe if someone from the cogregation saw them behaving this way they would rat on them. SOmeone saw my mom out with a worldly guy and ratted on her to the Elders. They must be studying, even if that, because no JW would be allowed to behave that way.

People are trying to tell you that the family you described are not witnesses. Now, I am not saying that they are all like that, but A LOT of them are. My biological father was an elder - he was a molester, a drug addict, and a drunk. The other elders were well aware of the situation, but continued to let him serve the congregation. My step father was not much better and he is an elder still. I know several other elders that are just as bad if not worse.
They are a dangerous cult - but they would never admit that to you.

Nope.
They are the few that have a understanding of Christ commandment to his people.
Mat 10:7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.
