I want to make one of those traditional folding fans. I don't mean the kind where you just fold up a piece of paper and staple it in place, but one of those real ones.
Does anyone have a link to a place with a guide, or something? I really want to learn how to make these myself!

I know you can buy the sticks for the fan in some stores, as a friend of mine makes lace fans.
But it is easier to buy a cheap fan and take of the fan leaf, and replace it with your own.

You can also make the sticks yourself, see the website in the answer above to see a good picture of a fan.
Cut a set of identical stick out of strong card stock or thin wood and rivet them together.
Add the fan leave on the other end.
Look at a lot of fan pictures if you want to make your own fan.

I also never found a good guide on the web how to make a fan yet.

What do you mean by "real on?"

Most of your Japanese and Spanish fans are built onto a base sort of thing. Probably not so easy for the do-it-yerselfer.

They used to make patterns for folding type fans for fireplace screens, etc. Maybe you can find one on eBay.
