My mom and brother and technically my whole family thinks it's wierd that I'm white and I love to listen to Korean, Japanese, and German music. They tell me to get a life and listen to American music. I do but they don't really want me listening to music. I also love to watch movies in Korean and Japanese. They have subtitles so I mean I understand them and sometimes I actually think they're better than American movies. Do you think it's wierd or not? If you do why?

I'm watching Eat Drink Man Woman right now, it's from Taiwan and it's a wonderful movie. Maybe you're a tiny bit more intelligent than your family.

I don't find it weird at all. I find it kinda good that you are watching movies and music that are in different languages. You get to enjoy the music that is different from ours. You even get to learn a new language while you are watching the movies beacuse of the subtitles and stuff. I like to watch spanish shows and movies and their music. And I actually learned some spanish out of it. :) At leats you're an open minded person and like to do new things. Keep on watching the movies and listening to the music. :)

It's not weird at all! I, myself, listen to a very wide variety of music. Korean, Japanese, Romanian, French, German, Russian, etc. I LOVE movies in foreign languages, too. Different countries express different forms of art through media compared to what we're used to in America. People like what they like and it never can be helped. You can learn a lot of different things by exploring through worldwide media. The humor of some countries is pretty good sometimes, right? I don't know whether you're an adult or a child, but I bet you're not one to follow the crowd.. Be proud of yourself!

it is not weird at all. tell THEM to get a life. i like listening to music that i dont understand the language of. it sounds beautiful to me and you dont need to know what is being sung if you like the music for music's sake. as for movies, i cant say the same. i dont really 'watch' tv and movies as much as i 'listen' to it while i am doing other things so that wouldn't do me any good. i'd miss the whole thing.

Why not? If you listen to different types of music, you might even learn a little bit of that particular language. People tend to slow down words and accents are reduced while they sing so it's easier to hear what they're saying.

same here! I like listening to dragostei din tei, and final countdown (the original one, forget which language its sung in) and no one else can understand why. Not weird at all. If they pester you about it, just tell them "I'm expanding my cultural horizons by learning to understand and comprehend the similarities and differences between our cultures." Whenever you say that, they will get a wierd look in their eye and wander off.

It just just shows that you are not ignorant and you are open to new and exciting cultures around the globe. Don't listen to your parents! It is great that you are embracing the cultures surrounding you!
