No, Castro hates the Democrats, because Democratic leaders have consistently opposed him and his actions.

However, he is also smart enough to know that the best way to hurt Democrats is to come out on their side -- as proven by the knee-jerk reaction of many on the other side who automatically assume that if Castro has anything nice to say, the subject must be evil.

Castro is playing on that reaction to hurt the Democrats, and it appears to be working.

Don't you find that the teeniest bit strange? He's never endorsed any US presidential candidate and had been rumored to be dead for weeks. The entire column he wrote doesn't seem to be available.
