I live in a town on the other side of the river. There are a few really dangerous neighborhoods but some really nice ones too. It all depends on where you live. The very historic downtown is getting nicer by the day as new stores and restaurants move in.
A word of caution: the schools, especially the high school, are not terrific. Fortunately, by state law, your child can attend any other high school; some parents send their kids to Waterford, one town over, the magnet school, or Norwich Free Academy about a half an hour north on I-395. So my simple answer is: yes, it could be a great, educational, fun place to live if you live in the right neighborhood and go to the right schools.

I am originally from CT (moved 3 yrs ago) and have family, friends in that area and lived in norwich for a shor ttime.
I personally loved new london cause of the downtown shops, the sail fest and most of all the ocean. BUT you have to be careful as to what area as there are a few sketchy areas. Basically i think the closer to beach you are the better. Alot of navy people down in that area and apartment/condo complexes as well a the college and pfeizer.
I wish u best of luck- sometimes i miss new engladn.
i love the ocean.

Compare crime rates, the cost of living, educational statistics and opportunities for work. Everyone here will be biased towards the country in which they reside, hence the reason for people above me all saying Boston when they have probably never been to London. Edit: Fallen one, London is one of the most racially diverse places in Europe, there is no way race will manifest to be more of an issue as opposed to Boston in NY.
