God is the ONLY reason and purpose of our being. He makes us to go on. Those people who have the living GOD in their hearts are the happiest and purposeful beings in the world.

OMG!!! That's a great question. and my answer applies to whatever belief (or no belief) that a person come from.
"Life Is What You Make Of It".
- if you just want to scam people and do the bad things, that is the reason for your life.
- if you want to put yourself away and isolate yourself from society, to think you'll never make it, that is the reason for your life.
- if you think you're here on Earth to help those in need, that will be you reason for you to live =)
remember my friend, unlike animals/plants, we humans are gifted with the ability to choose, to make decisions. YOU choose, make it or break it.
Hope this helps, Peace.

Well, first we need to meet our basic needs- feelings of safety, water, air, food, and shelter (I say safety first because if someone is shooting at you you are going to drop the aquafina!)
But after that we search for love and acceptance. It is one of our most basic needs and is just as important as the things I mentioned above. That is why peer pressure is so strong, why relationships make us so emotional...we simply want to be loved.
I believe self esteem comes next. Once we have a handful of other people who can stand us we need to be able to like ourselves. Unfortuanately not liking ourselve often keeps others from liking us as well.
For the lucky few who get past all this... we need passion. Not lovey-dovey light the candels passion, but a passion for something. Mine is learning horsemanship. For some people it is math and science, or a sport, or helping others, or promoting religon and living for God. It is amazing to me how few people make it here, but regardless of what their passion is when two people meet who have both gotten to this level, they can always relate on some level.
My prayers go out to those struggling on the lower levels as it is usually by no fault of their own.

I would really like to answer this question but I keep getting slapped down when I use G_d's name on this site. What a shame because He is the only reason for life!

Revelation 4:11 KJV
"Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created."
We were created for God's pleasure. God takes pleasure in us and He calls us His children.
The secret ingredient that makes us to go on is Jesus. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life." Jesus said, "I am the life" and because He lives, we live. Basically, without Jesus we are nothing. Without Christ we lose faith in life and some do not go on. It is very important to know Jesus the Christ.

There is none.
The unwillingness to accept reality is the source of great misery for so many. The pharmaceutical industry makes billions from those who are unwilling to accept reality.
We can create any reason that we want, we can create any reason and get many people to agree with us -- in the end, there is none.

There's no reason, and the not-at-all-secret ingredient is metabolism.
