Always wide screen... never full.
Many people prefer full screen because they find the "black bars" really annoying... but they are MISSING SO MUCH of the film that way. You can not appreciate the director's artistic vision for a film if you can't see all of it.

Get a plasma it removes all the black bars. Nevertheless I like widescreen and have been watching with it for years. The reason is because nothing is cut out or distorted from the original film. I don't understand why people like full screen and get cheated out of footage that should be there but isn't. You learn to ignore the black bars, trust me.

No true movie lover prefers fullscreen.
Fullscreen fans may enjoy watching movies, but they have no appreciation for the artistry of cinema. Fullscreen DVDs are a debasement of the film, and you can't love cinema and wish to see movies debased. It's just as bad as colorization. The "black bars are distracting" arguement is ridiculous. Losing 40% of the picture you are supposed to be seeing is what's really distracting.
WIDESCREEN IS THE ONLY VIABLE OPTION!

Full screen, I see why you say Wide Screen is better but the bars are distracting and I just like full screen better.

Full screen. I generally use my laptop or my TV (which is tiny) and wide screen is less than half the screen and I can't see squat.
If it's on my dad's monster TVs, I can deal w/ widescreen but still generally like full screen.

It depends, but all in all it doesn't really matter to me.
I enjoy wide-screen because it gives you the feel you're at a movie theater, especially if you watch it in the dark.
I also enjoy full-screen because it shows everything that you want to see.
So just as long as the quality is good, I could care less. =]

Great info, but I still greatly dislike widescreen, not necessarily because of how much I can and can't see of the picture, but mostly because those damn bars at the top & bottom of the screen are so distracting that I often can't get into the film! Great question, though!

before I got an LCD TV i liked full. Now it does not matter bc my TV plays WS/FS without the bars. WS is supposed to be better because it along with suround sound better replicates the movie going experience
