Most have misconstrued my question: is NOT killing one's self, (that is carrying on living) an act of heroism as Camus said it was?

No. If you do it because you are suffering from serious depression, it isn't. You are being selfish and nothing good comes out of it. But if you are trying to help someone else (dodging a bullet, etc.) and are just thinking of saving the other person, and you happen to die accidentally, not because you wished for it, then that is heroism. Heroism is when you are willing to help someone no matter the circumstance, not kill yourself purposely. A great example of people like this are policemen and firefighters. They go to their jobs knowing there is a risk, but they do not want to die.

It is not, killing yourself for someone is not an act of heroism if it is for the wrong reason. If you are a firefighter and die when in someone's home to save them, then yes that is an "act of heroism", but if you kill yourself so someone else does not have to deal with you, then no it is not an "act of heroism". The acts have to be done for no other reason but for someone else. If you are doing something for to please yourself, then it does not accomplish the proper "Acts of Heroism" Hope this helps some.

Yes in fact i believe it is. If you consider yourself as more of a liability than an asset to others...if you're just a shitbag, a pain in the ***...if you believe the world will be a better place without you...kill yourself then.... it could be the only heroic thing you'll ever do.

Only a human being is capable of killing oneself. Crows do not lie, steal, cheat etc. Actions have also been classified as life-negative, and life-positive. Killing oneself is also a kind of 'accidental' death, the situation being deliberate by self alone, so there is nothing heroic about it.

It's selfishness, not heroism.

We die so that others can live. Our generation will die so the next stages of evolution can continue in the next generations. Those who cling and hang on, only create a burden for the society and for the following generations.

In a way yes becasue a hero is not a hero like spiderman a hero is somone who takes the harder path and does what is best. somtimes killing ones self my seem like a good idea. But taking the harder path and living your life makes you a hero.
