Do not look at it for sure.

Also there is a numbing cream that can be topically applied.

Best way for sure is to concentrate on another part of the body (like one leg) and pinch your leg enough before the shot begins so you are distracted and you will never feel shot if you pinch hard enough.

You dont really say what kind of needle. If its an IV then the nurse can start it with a numbing medicine called Emla Cream which is applied to the skin 1 hour before the venipuncture.

If you're like most people the anticipation is worse than the event. The reality is it will hurt, and you will be sore in the area afterwards. It's all about acknowledging this as reality and being strong to stand a few moments of discomfort. It will be over sooner than you expect, and you will go on with your day like normal, happy that you made it through.

There is no need to be scared, it only takes a few seconds and all you feel is a small pinch and maybe a sting. Tell the person giving the shot you are nervous and they will do their best to make it quick and painless. I always keep my head turned away, take slow deep breathes and keep my arm relaxed.

Good luck, be brave :-)
