I live in Virginia, and from my driveway to my front door I have spider webs taking over! I don't even know how they get where they are, as they appear to have nothing to grab onto. They weave them right over the front doorway at night. They are merciless! I know spiders are good, but everything is covered in webs. Does anyone know a natural way to discourage spiders?

Barn spider sounds like your babies. The tear down at dawn and rebuild at dusk.

Take an old broom or stick and scoop them away from the door and move them to another area. They will be fine. These ladies don't hurt you but they get frighteningly large by the end of the summer.

Go out at night with a stick just after they've built their webs and remove the webs. Disturbing the webs will prompt the spiders to build somewhere else. Usually once is enough, but you may have to do it two or more times. Eventually they will get the message.
Good Luck and thank you for not killing them.

This works for me. Simply take a stick of some sort, "wrap" the web around it (or it around the web, whichever works best) being sure to get the spider as well and carry it to a tree or bush elsewhere and leave it there. I have moved many dozens of spiders like this; they seem to like to spin their webs along my walkway, underneath the light outside the back walk. Surely, as someone else suggested, a good source of food at night.

Again, thank you for not killing them. They really do so much good for us even though most of them are really icky looking (to quote my granddaughters).

Do you have a light on at night in these areas? It sounds like they are building the webs there because there is a food source there every night. You might consider switching to a yellow, less attractive light otherwise you will be moving webs as long as there are bugs to catch there.

Yeah, the "natural" way to discourage spiders is to kill them and their offspring!

What the heck is wrong with people today.....we don't have the common sense the Good Lord gave us or what??

Spray a mixture of citronella and water in that area. Spiders hate citronella and it should prevent them from coming back.

Keep knocking them down with the broom. Eventually they will learn to move somewhere else.
