I don't think it's our job to keep or make someone else happy and in fact none of us can. A person has to be happy in their own self and by their own self before they can ever be truly happy in a relationship. I think it is super unhealthy for us to expect someone else to make and keep us happy, and it's unhealthy for us to try and make/keep someone else happy.

Yes, we should all do things in a relationship to make sure the other person can trust us, knows that we love them, knows that we notice them and care about their ups/downs, joys/pains, and are heard. But I think our job as a mate is to be a witness and participant in the other's life - not to make or break it.

Jack B, if someone is making you think that you're not making them happy - then they are not accepting you (on a romantic level anyway) for who you are. They want you to be different, which at this stage in your life you can't be. You're an artist, and a darn good one - but along with that comes a tad bit of free-spiritedenss - and that's totally ok. If she wants someone less free-spirited then she should move on and you should let her. Don't part enemies, but part knowing who each other is and being ok with who you each are.
(((Jack B)))

ANYWAY - if you're not happy, no one else will make you happy. If someone else isn't happy, you can't make them happy.

Thanks Bobby! (((Bobby)))

I have what it takes to keep someone else happy! I don't have what it takes to keep me happy!

I don't know about that... I don't think anyone has what it takes to be responsible for someone else's happiness... I think I can only be responsible for my own happiness, and I can be kind and thoughtful, and considerate and selfless which might contribute to someone else's happiness.
