Bu I need to know a type of fish that does well alone (not in a group), what kind of mattinence that fish requires and any way to convince my parent that I am old enough and responsible enough to get one.
If possible it would be nice if it was pretty and could live in a fish bowl although these are not musts.

A betta would be your best choice. Though no fish does it's best in a bowl except with the most demanding of maintenance, a betta will do extremely well in a 2.5 gallon tank with a filter and heater. These kits are readily available at any large chain pet store for very reasonable prices.

Bettas are fantastic starting fish. They are Labyrinth fish, so they don't need an air pump. I would shoot for a small 2 gallon tank. Males are famous for their beautiful fins! You have to keep bettas separate, so one is perfectly fine. I would buy a nice little filter for the tank (makes it super easy to keep clean). They can live in a bowl also, but I don't recommend it. Just remember to change the water and feed him bloodworms and betta pellets and you should be set!! GOOD LUCK!

if i were you look into a beta they are best off alone or they kill whatever is in the tank with it youll just need to feed it and clean its tank. Betas are beautiful fish and you can tell your parents that you believe you are old enough and would like to learn to take care of something by yourself to learn to take responsibility for something other than yourself.
