1.
sqrt 72
= sqrt (36x2)
= (sqrt 36) x (sqrt 2)
= 6 x (sqrt 2) ... answer!
2.
sqrt 1/5
= (sqrt 1) / (sqrt 5)
= 1/(sqrt 5)
then multiply by ((sqrt 5) / (sqrt 5)) , since ((sqrt 5) / (sqrt 5)) = 1, right??? so,
(1/(sqrt 5)) x ((sqrt 5) / (sqrt 5))
= (sqrt 5) / ((sqrt 5) x (sqrt 5))
= (sqrt 5) / 5
so the answer is (sqrt 5)/5
FYI, that's the rational form of sqrt (1/5)

a million. Root 7 * Root 14 (a) cases 7 by utilising 14: = Root ninety 8 (b) Now think of of a sq. selection which works into ninety 8... The sq. selection 40 9 is going in 2 cases. (c) So root ninety 8 = root 40 9 * root 2 (d) Root 40 9 = 7, so the final answer is: 7 * root 2, it particularly is written as 7 root 2 2. 2 root 12 + 4 root 27 (a) root 12 = root 3 * root 4 and root 27 = root 3 * root 9 (b) So root 12 = 2 root 3 and root 27 = 3 root 3 (c) So 2 root 12 = 4 root 3 and four root 27 = 12 root 3 (d) 4 root 3 + 12 root 3 = sixteen root 3

try finding factors which are themselves squares.
eg. 72 = 8 x 9, and 9 is a square, so
sqrt 72 = sqrt (9 * 8) = sqrt 9 * sqrt 8 = 3*sqrt(8)
but another (better) answer is 72 = 36 x 2 and 36 is a square,
so sqrt 72 = sqrt (36 * 2) = 6*sqrt(2)
Convention is that you don't have a radical in the denominator, so for your second one you can't "simplify" it as such, but you can multiply it by sqrt(5)/sqrt(5) to get the radical into the numerator, which gives
sqrt(5)/sqrt(5)*(1/sqrt(5)) = sqrt(5)/5
oh yeah, don't forget the +/- when you calculate the sqrt.

The answer to your first question is :
sqrt72= 6 * sqrt 2 =
8.4852813742386
The answer to your second question is:
sqrt 1/5 = 1/sqrt 5 = 0.4472135955
I hopes this helps.
