I love to see people claim that Vitter was not in Congress when his dillitation took place. WRONG !!!! He had been in the Congress since Jan 1999. He had been a member of the House, i.e. Congressman Vitter, having replaced Congressman Bob Livingston who had resigned due to his own extramarital affair which came to light after had castigated Clinton for Lewinsky.
Vitter's dalliances with the DC madam took place after that. The first calls was made on October 12, 1999, and the last on February 27, 2001. This means he was doing this while a member of the House. The phone records show he did these on a few occassions during house votes ( guess he must have been bored!!!)

But then they are Republicans- what else can you expect? They are so obsessed with sexuality ( or rather the lack thereof) that they will deny,deny, deny until they all turn blue in the face.
Well now, Craig, he is " not straight" therefore, string him up by the short and curlies. It has been so ingrained in the Republican party that if you have inclination as to wanting to be with someone of the same sex, you must hate yourself.
It is sad, where it is more important as to whom you sleep with vs. the good you can do and the work you perform regardless of party.
