I've got a Pentium D 930, 3.0Ghz which runs idle at around 50c (122F), and around 62c (143F) under load.

Just want to add 2 points: my processor is cooled by a liquid cooling system, and secondly, my computer has been on for about 80 hours consecutive with 3-4 restarts in between.

D930 maximum case temp is 63.4°C. Few suggestions:
1. lap your processor cooling block
2. use AS5 or Zalman STG1 thermal paste
3. increase liquid flow rate and/or increase radiator fan airflow

Check your temps also with Core Temp. I find it more accurate. Take note that the readings are on the core, not the case. Do not refer to max. case temp.

Ok since this is a processor, it will have different temperature parameters than a graphics card. Also, you are running a pentium D at a rather high clock speed so ideal load would be 50-55 C and normal operating 40-45 C. However, what you have right now is just fine. Dont worry about it. Pentium D processors reach critical threshold around 115-120 C.

50 degrees Celsius might be a bit high when you are not doing anything. Normally my CPU stays at 30 - 40 degrees.

If you want to lower your temperature, you can try speedfan and control the velocity of your fans. Set it to 100%. This will definitely decrease the temperature of your CPU. Also high temperatures will lower the life of your CPU so keep that in mind.

Another thing to do is open your case and clean it. Buy those dust blowers (the canned ones) and get rid of the dust and dirt. Here is a guide on how to clean your computer http://www.computerdust.com/computer-cleaning.html

Last but not least, you can put your computer in a cooler room. This will lower the temp. of your computer.

The Pentium D series runs notoriously hot but 62c is pushing it. You might want to invest in a more robust cpu fan. I would shoot for 58c under full load.

The specs for the D series show 69c as the max operating temp. Meaning at 70c you can expect chip failure.

well a stable cool graphics card is 30-60 , so by the sounds of that it sounds ok but i'm not an expert
