$3.5 million invested at 12%, the long term average of the US stock market, returns $420,000 / year. Drawing 8% and leaving 4% to cover inflation, that leave $280,000 / year FOREVER. I could live quite well on that and have enough left to give generously to charities of my choice.

OMG, if that question hasn't come to mind for me many times. I would be set for life. First I would buy a couple houses, a few nice cars for me and my husband, then I would give each close family member some money, the amount depending on how many people in family and why needed etc. Then I would make sure I had enough for my children and grandchildren. If there is any left over, I would give it to a charity.

If I had that much money, I would help those in need of money, like me, who can't get a loan because of bad credit caused from loaning other people money and not getting paid back. All I'm trying to do is get a loan any where from $3000 to $10000 to pay off my debts and no one wants to help, so I'm getting further in debt and see no way out. If I had your kind of money, helping people would be one thing I'd do cause I know what it' s like to need it and have no one who cares enough to help, and that's a bad feeling.
