Yes, you should be ashamed. I knew who all of these people were by the time I was in the 3rd grade (I was 7), and I learned about them from my parents. What's really sad is that I went to an historically black university (Hampton) and most of my classmates had never heard of anyone other than Malcolm and Martin. Don't depend on school to be your child's sole source of education. You should be teaching him things as well, particularly about culture.

Sorry to say but your kid is uneducated because my neice is 5 and she can easily name ten famous African- Americans that aren't connected to music or sports and she isn't even American she is Brazilian!

The only ones I noticed here other than that were Harriet Tubman & Martin Luther King.
Good GOD there has to be OTHERS who accomplished GREAT THINGS.....other than just these two!
