Hey everyone, I am nearly 19 weeks pregnant and have a scan this Monday - I am torn as to finding out the sex of the baby - my hubbie wants to but I am not so sure, I really want a boy and am worried how I may react if it is a girl (as long as it is healthy I wont really mind but you know you often have a preference).

Whats your stories??

Please dont think I have a problem if it is a girl, it is only a preference as I already have one boy - cannot wait either way!!

I was dieing to find out what sex my children were!!! With my first born, my hubby and I were convinced it was a boy and we both kinda wanted a boy. My baby kept it's legs crossed until I was 28 weeks and we were finally able to see that it was a girl! I shook my head and told the u/s tech "But I'm having a boy" and she said "no, you're having a girl" and laughed at me. We got over the shock quickly and I got excited about buying ruffles and lace!
With my second we were hoping for another girl since I always wanted to have a sister. My first u/s I was told that I was indeed having another girl! 4 weeks later I had a second u/s and the tech told me the baby was a boy. My dr was also baffled looking at the u/s photos and agreed that it looked like different babies... one boy and one girl. She sent me in a third time to see if there was any possiblity there were twins hiding behind eachother. The tech searched and found nothing but a boy. A fourth u/s for growth showed a boy still. So I got excited about fire trucks and police cars!
I am due in 3 weeks with my third. After a pregnancy with each gender... I was pretty sure I was having a girl. Every u/s (and I've had many due to concerns about growth) has shown a little girl.
I think it is up to each person. If you hubby wants to know, and you don't... maybe tell the tech that. The tech can tell him and not you. Then you may end up curious and ask him to tell you anyway!

I didn't find out with my first and it was the best surprise I have ever gotten. I don't regret it for a second! There are so few mysteries left in life! I'm glad I didn't know before hand (and I had 3 scans where they could see the sex and I held firm!)

However, I did find out the 2nd time around because of 'peer pressure' I guess. I don't regret it, but when he was born i didn't get the surprise announcement I did with the first. I was still in awe and so in love with him when him when he was born though so that didn't change.

In my opinion, don't do it. Wait until the baby is born. Just buy a couple of cute little boy and little girl clothes towards the end of your pregnancy (keep the receiipts and tags on so you can return whatever you don't need). One set of white/yellow sheets and some unisex/white/yellow clothes and when the baby is born you'll be able to take him/her shopping for more clothes. Plus once people know what you've had you will be inundated with clothes and things in pink or blue.

As I said, there are so few mysteries left in life, let this be one of them!
When I finally fall pregnant with my 3rd I won't be finding out again as it kinda spoils it!

Good luck and congratulations!
Oh, if you want to find out you could use the 'chinese birth chart' (just google it) as it uses mothers age at conception and month of conception to pretty accurately tell the sex of the child. I and some friends tried it recently and it was true for all of us.

My husband and I decided we wanted to know the sex our baby. I was so disappointed when they couldn't tell at my 20 week scan. But when I had another done at 27 weeks we were able to find out.

I had really wanted a girl. I just knew I would be disappointed if I didn't get a girl. But lo and behold we found out it was a boy. I didn't react the way I thought I would, I was ecstatic! I walked around for days with a huge smile plastered all over my face. I'm so happy that I'll be having a son.

Whatever you and your husband decide, don't let anyone make you feel guilty for it.

Congrats and Good Luck!

Yes, I did find out. My circumstances were different. After experiencing 3 miscarriages and 3 years of infertility, I personally NEEDED that moment to hear "It's a boy". It made my pregnancy very real for me & hubby. I had absolutley no preference one way or another-just healthy. I am so lucky with my miracle little guy because I'm not going to have any more babies.

I have known couples to ask the ultrasound tech to write the gender down on a piece of paper, and place it in a sealed envelope. When you are READY to learn, if at all, yo'll have that envelope waiting for you.

All the best to you for a happy & healthy pregnancy!

My husband and I were both hoping for a boy, but he kept saying he knew we were having a girl. I wanted to find out, either way, because it's easier to buy stuff and pick out a name.

I was initially disappointed when I found out I was having a girl (for the record, I'd really love to have one of each, so I don't have a gender bias, but I wanted the boy first) but after seeing her little face, and her GIANT feet, and even her tiny buttcrack (she mooned the doctor) I pretty much got over it. We conceived through IVF so I am grateful to be having a baby at all. I was never a real girly-girl and my husband is sure to be teaching her how to work on cars, etc. so I know I am going to raise a little tomboy.

Ironically, after we found out, we asked everyone we knew to guess what we were having, and about 90% guessed boy.

I was torn too for that reason. I have 2 boys and wanted a girl. When the u/s technician said it was a boy, I was a little sad, but got over it very quickly! I believe we are given a boy or girl for a reason and maybe Im just not meant to have a girl! Just look at all the positive and remember as soon as you see your baby, it wont matter to you, you'll be so in love with him or her! Congrats to you and good luck :)

My husband and I both wanted a girl. And before the ultrasound I had a feeling I was having a girl. I couldn't imagine it being a boy. It just didn't feel like I was carrying a boy.

It never crossed my mind to NOT find out for sure.

Found out the sex of the baby at 20 weeks and it's a girl!

I found out the sex of both of my sons. I liked knowing because I knew what colors to buy and everything, but theres nothing better than a surprise!! And don't feel bad if you react a little crazy if your having a girl. I wanted a girl with both of my sons, and each time when they said it was a boy, I cried a tiny bit. I kept it to myself for the most part, my husband knew of course. But I got over it fairly quickly and in the long run nothings better than knowing you have a beautiful, healthy baby Good luck and congrats!!!

I wanted to know both pregnancies what the baby was for economical reasons. I don't like unisex clothing. I wanted a boy this time but I got another girl! I am happy now that I think about having two girls to trade facials and foot treatments with. My daughter loves doing girly stuff with Mama. Either way as long as the baby is healthy it is all that matters.
