THE Flag is a symbol. A flag is a piece of cloth. You can burn a piece of cloth. You cannot burn THE Flag. We can only destroy it's meaning by betraying the foundations on which our country was established. I'd really prefer that kids pledge allegiance to the Constitution the way elected officials do, "to preserve, protect and defend"
what do you think

I agree with the thoughts of Bruce M except for one minor point.
elected officials Swear or affirm to preserve, protect, and defend but they still pledge allegiance to the flag.
There was even a big brouhaha a while back when several of the elected officials in DC (I can't remember if it was Congress or Senate) hesitated rather than saying "Under God" during the pledge of allegiance.
Burning of a flag seems to me a childish act of protest and I can't see it being done in a celebratory way.
To celebrate my rights in t USA I would rather purchase a legal fire arm, chose a church to go to (or not to go to), discuss what the politicians are doing wrong and right, vote for whomever I chose to, and have a drink after work with friends as part of a lawful assembly.

I have nothing against the flag since it represents the people of the nation, it's nothing to do with the government...
At the same time, I'm pretty sure that it's legal. I have never burned the flag myself. I do know a group of people here who decided to have a picnic on top of the flag. Wow, people sure were angry about that.
There was an artist who decided to express that very freedom. In his art gallery (I'm pretty sure it was in Seattle) he had a book where anyone could write in. You could write anything you wanted. Your thoughts, your dreams, your goals, anything. But to write in the book, the floor which you had to stand on was the American flag.
Considering that he was an artist, this was artfully done. I think the message he was trying to make was that in order to stand up for what you believed in, you had to be disobedient sometimes. Because all the people that didn't stand on the flag, they didn't get their ideas out.
His gallery was closed. Many people think he's brilliant and many just think he's an idiot. Who knows? He certainly is creative.

i would not burn the flag of the rustic that i like, and that i desire others could stumble on a various exchange into of expressing their feeling the two stable or undesirable, yet once you prefer to burn the flag so be it. The flag is merely a logo of the liberty we savour so once you burn your person flag, you're in basic terms making a assertion approximately your perspectives and your rights .

Sure, its possible if you want to look like a complete moron. The flag is a symbol of this great country. Why don't you just spit on the Marines that raised the flag in Iwo Jima, risking their lives to make sure that flag stood tall. Check out this picture. These men raised this flag for a purpose. It makes me want to vomit when people burn flags.

faded and frayed. and then burned in honor.
Too many Americans blood has been spilled in death and
phyical injuries for our welfare our freedom, You pledge an alligiance to the flag, for which it stands. The flag is a symbol,
Post your question to the DAV, VFW, AL, DAR,
I find your logic disrespectful, to say the very least.

Yes, that's certainly another expressive message that can be conveyed by that symbolic conduct.
And you are absolutely correct -- the only way to betray the flag is to betray the foundations on which our country was established -- which includes freedom of expression.
