If you eat plenty of vitamin c foods like fruits and vegaetables, then you only need take supplements over the winter.

Cod liver oil daily is good though, and garlic pearls between September and May.

If you take a balanced food including milk, proteins, vegetables and fish/meat and fruits, you may not require vitamin tablets. It is better to consult a GP and take vitamins which are deficient.Vitamins are required only in small quantities and excess will go out through urine.Excessive dosage of Vitamin B 12 or B complex is not good.

Multivitamins in UK are at best pointless and at worst potentially toxic. Even on the adverts on TV you will notice they make no claims for their advantage, a one line comment goes across the screen towards the end of the adverts that says ' May be useful in the elderly'! Even this comment was based on one dubious study.

We are unable to utilise vitamins above RDA and since in UK most of us exceed that, provided we eat a normal diet, they have no function.

Water soluble vitamins, taken in excess are simply peed out, though there are concerns that regular high doses of vitamin C may be mutogenic. fat soluble vitamins are more difficult to clear and may become toxic in excess. Vitamin A to the eyes and Vitamin D to the kidney.

Your body will only utilize what it needs. No harm to take 2 or 3 a day. I've been taking 3 a day for several years.
