I was just wondering if someone is alerted when you connect to their wireless network. If you can help, I'd really appreciate it.

Now that we know that you've connected to someone elses wireless network, I'll explain. No, there is not "alarm." However it is very easy to check. You just login to your wireless router (via 192.168.x.x) and you can see all the devices that are connected to you're network. You can see the computer name and the Mac Address.

If someone connects to a wireless network, their IP address, machine name and other information is automatically recorded. A simply look at the router log will reveal who has attached to the network.

It is possible to set the router/firewall to alert you immediately when someone attaches to a network. But most people do not have that set up.

Connecting to someone else wireless network is a felony, and people connecting have been fined and jailed for doing it.

Working in the computer IT business, I see it happen frequently.
