I am a socialable person, but I do not like to go to parties or anywhere where there is a large crowd of people. I would rather stay home and read, watch t.v., or surf the net. Does this makes me an introvert or is it something more? I get sick to my stomach just thinking of going somewhere where I have to be social.

You worry much that others will not like you or that you will be embarrassed in some way. Ask yourself about the worst possible thing that could happen if you went to one of these parties or gatherings. Then step back and assess the probability of that happening. Practice some relaxation exercises before you are due to go out like deep breathing or a relaxation tape. The more you practice doing the thing you fear the less the anxiety. I am saying this to you because it sounds to me that you would like to go out more, or you would not be writing.

You know, everyone is different. Don't try to label yourself. To thine own self be true. But, I sense from what you said that you feel pressure to perform a certain way. Don't. You can go to parties and just hang out. You don't have to be the life of the party. I used to go to parties and not say much, just listen and laugh. Later, I was always amazed that people remembered me and had such complimentary things to say, even though I hadn't said much. I reasoned that someone who listens and has a good time, but was not necessarily the life of the party, was someone people appreciated. I bet you could be the same. Just be nice and have a good time and other people will enjoy your company. But don't feel pressure to go. Go only to enjoy yourself and leave the rest to chance. You can fit in anywhere.

Well you're the same as I am, except I am not feeling low if I am about to attend a social activity or involving socializing with others. There's absolutely nothing wrong with you or considered introvert, it's who you are and what you prefer to do. If that's what make you satisfied, why not follow it as long as it's good for yourself.
